Sun & MySQL
January 16, 2008 – 3:21 pmI don’t think anyone saw this coming. Sun to acquire MySQL. The vision of Jonathan Schwartz seems to lead towards the “Open” arena. Although MySQL has been pretty popular within the open source community, not a lot of large enterprises have adopted it for their enterprise class applications (Google is an exception ofcourse). It would be interesting to see the climb that MySQL could possibly attain now that it will be backed by a large enterprise such as Sun.
This is great news, hopefully as Schwartz put it on his blog “we’re putting a billion dollars behind the M in LAMP”, let’s see how far this investment takes MySQL.
