In the news again, Google!

February 26, 2006 – 2:08 am

Google has done it again, they have released another web product (free for all to use) ofcourse. This new tool Google Pages, allows users to create web pages with ease without requiring any knowledge of html. Although you can still view and edit the underlying HTML code. Using Google Page Creator, I created a few pages to check out its ease of use, features and abilities, and I must say it does do a decent job of offering your regular, font, image and color choices, nothing complex or mind blowing.

I wonder, now with everyone talking about “Web 2.0” and playing with the new buzzword “Ajax” will applications/tools such as Google Pages replace the conventional ways in which designers/developers create web applications and web sites? Will these tools evolve to replace (if not dissolve) Dreamweaver, Visual Studio, Java Studio, Eclipse, NetBeans and others? Recently Microsoft put up its Office Live application in beta (available only in US), this means we won’t have to install Microsoft Office Suite on our computers, and instead be able to create and save documents online and get access to them remotely. Ofcourse Writely has already been there for a while now. There are rumours that Google alongside Sun, is working on a Microsoft Office Live rival, based on Sun’s StarOffice/OpenOffice.Org suite.

Let us see which direction web technology leads us to in these next few months, the buzz around the web has grown so much it almost feels like the “web bubble” is about to burst.

In the mean time don’t forget to close your tags.

< Cheers />
