680 News Blackberry Application

On May 14th, Toronto’s local news radio station 680News released their own Blackberry application which provides users with news in the palm on their hand. Having been a listener of the news station for many years and a owner of a Blackberry Bold (Rogers Wireless), I decided to download the application and take it for a spin. Seeing that the Bold runs on the advanced 3G network, this little application also makes it possible to listen live. The benefits of having a Bold as stated on their mobile site, “It gets better if you have a Blackberry Bold or a Curve 8890: You’ll also be able to listen to the latest traffic and business reports on demand.”

This is great news, only if the application worked as it is supposed to. It is a new application and there may be bugs here and there. Navigating through the 680News Mobile site, I found no place where I can actually submit issues pertaining to the application in order to better assist them in troubleshooting these problems should another user experience them.

My last resort is to capture the errors that I came across on my blog. I spent over an hour trying different things to see if changing the network settings on the Bold would make the application work. The ironic part is my Blackberry Bold runs on the network of 680News’ parent company, Rogers Communications.

Here are a couple of screen captures I took of the problems that I ran into when trying to use the 680News Blackberry application. If you have the same problem, please leave your comments, if you were able to get it working.

I’m having the same problem on my Bold on the Rogers network, don’t know where to go for technical assistance. Looks like a great app, too bad…

I just started using this application. We are thinking of developing an application also hopefully as successful as this one.
