Tuesday Evening Dinner

June 27, 2006 – 11:15 pm

I met up with a friend from work and his wife today for dinner in Atlanta. I am here in Atlanta until thursday, the regular monday through thursday trips between YYZ and ATL. So we decided to go for dinner today and they came to pick me up. We ended up going to this small cafe that was pretty busy, there were a lot of folks sitting outside having drinks and conversing. The atmosphere and setting was pretty hip. So we thought, sure why not. The place looked pretty good and there was a good crowd.

We ended up going through their wine list which might I say was 10 times thicker then their food menu. That was kind of surprising, but we wanted to get some drinks and that we did. My friend ordered a beer, his wife ordered a drink called “Almond Joy” and I ordered a margarita on the rocks. Needless to say the Almond Joy didn’t really bring any joy and the margarita wasn’t all that great either. I’m not sure if the beer was any good, but I think it was pretty good because I didn’t hear my friend complaining about it. So we decided to go over to a place right across from it that had some latin/mexican music going on and looked a little more exciting.

We end up ordering a pitcher of Mojito, and it sucked big time. There was no alcohol in it and all we could taste was mint and lemon. It was almost as though they had given us Mint Lemon Ice Tea. They might as well have, because we would not have known the difference. So that place was not great at all and here we were thinking it might be better. Although, I must say the food was a little better. However, we only ordered a bunch of appetizers which worked out perfect. We cracked a few jokes had our share of laughs for the night and decided to go elsewhere for some more drinks.

Then we move over to a local bar which is right across from the client site where I work, and I go around that area sometimes to get lunch. We ordered a round of drinks at the local bar. This bar was pretty much your around the corner pub/bar, the usual hang out type of place on a friday evening after work. They had a pretty good selection of music going on, all powered by an iPod Video. That was probably the first bar or first place I’ve come across that had their entire music system powered by the Ipod. That took me by a surprise but also impressed me. I have to give it to the bar tender who was playing a dual role as a bar-tender as well as the resident DJ. So that was a good ending point to this night and this entry.

By the way, I found out that I don’t like Mojitos. At least not the way this place made it, considering this was my first time having a mojito, unless someone prepares it in such a way that excites my taste buds I think I will stick to margaritas. :)

Cheers!
